Activating ID Austria
Get your ID Austria account from your tax office!
Your ID Austria account is your secure digital identity and enables you to identify yourself online, access digital forms of ID and use numerous online services.
With just a few steps which you can carry out at home and then activate at your tax office, over 200 applications become available to you. These include, for example, a digital driving licence or proof of age on your smartphone, and easy, up-to-date access to FinanzOnline and many other e-government services.
Note: Foreign nationals can only register for an ID Austria account at a regional police headquarters.

Activate the fingerprint function (e.g. Touch ID) or facial/iris recognition (e.g. Face ID)
Install the latest version of the Digitales Amt (Digital Office) app
Now you can carry out the preliminary online registration on a PC, laptop or tablet. You will need to enter the document number of either your ID card or your passport.

What is left to do at the tax office?
At the tax office, you will be sent a TAN (Transaction Authentication Number) to your smartphone, which you must give to the tax office member of staff.
Then all you need to do – when asked – is enter your signature password in the Digitales Amt app and sign the request for a signature.
That completes the registration process and ID Austria is ready for you to use.
